Success for Life through Reading (SLR) is a student led volunteer and service-learning program whose mission is to increase early childhood literacy in North Texas.  SLR provides literacy activities and take-home books to preschool and kindergarten children from low-income families in Denton and surrounding cities to help develop the cognitive capacity necessary for achievement in school, relationships, and future work environments.

SLR partners with local preschools and elementary schools, UNT departments, and local high schools to match volunteers with a classroom that they adopt for an entire semester.  The volunteer weekly reader selects books from our inventory to read to their classroom each week.  Because of the generous grants and donations we receive from our sponsors, the volunteers are able to give a brand new copy of the book to each child in the classroom each week.  Our weekly readers may give away more than 100 books each semester to a local preschool or kindergarten classroom.  To learn more about our program and about other volunteer opportunities, please use the SLR menu to the left.  Feel free to contact us with any questions.
