Seniors / Volunteers for Childhood Immunization

The Seniors / Volunteers for Childhood Immunization program encourages the timely receipt of immunizations for pre-school aged children in Texas. Volunteers who understand the critical need for immunizations among children two years of age and younger strive to ensure the health of the youngest members of their local community through education and outreach.

Success for Life Through Reading

Success for Life through Reading (SLR) is a student volunteer program whose mission is to increase early childhood literacy in North Texas. SLR provides literacy activities and take-home books to low-income preschool children in Denton to help develop the cognitive capacity necessary for achievement in school, relationships, and future work environments.

America Reads

America Reads is an after-school tutoring program that provides at-risk youth with supplemental instruction and care from UNT student workers and volunteers. The mission of the UNT America Reads program is dedicated to providing the Denton Independent School District with exemplary mentors, tutors, and volunteers to further enhance the students' learning opportunities as well as abilities for both the university and the elementary school students.  America Reads strives to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy through improving the educational opportunities of economically, socially, or academically disadvantaged students.

Service-Learning

In its purest form, service-learning is a method of teaching that allows students to deepen their knowledge of course content by planning, implementing, and reflecting on a community-service experience. In its most basic form, it is an opportunity for students to be involved in the world outside of UNT by providing a service to the community.  Many UNT faculty incorporate a service-learning component in their class. ECV assists faculty in integrating this effective teaching method into their curriculum and connecting community agencies with faculty and students.
